UH-Manoa student confirmed as having H1N1 Flu

MEDIA RELEASE

HONOLULU – The Hawai‘i State Department of Health (DOH) today confirmed one additional case of novel H1N1 Influenza A (swine flu) in an adult resident of Oahu. The individual is a student at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa and school officials have been notified. The individual had no history of recent travel and is recovering at home.

State health director Dr. Chiyome Fukino said, “It is not unusual for us to find additional cases of novel H1N1 Influenza A as this nationwide outbreak continues. The numbers are not as important at this point as the severity of the illness and recovery of the cases.”

The next update on confirmed cases from the DOH will be posted on Monday at 10 a.m. on the DOH website at www.hawaii.gov/health (click on H1N1 Swine Flu Information). Beginning Monday, confirmed case counts will be updated at 10 a.m. daily on the website.
