Hawaii charity registry now available online

MEDIA RELEASE

A searchable database of registered charities that solicit funds from Hawaii donors is now available online.

The registry allows users to search the database of charities that have registered with the Department of the Attorney General. Chapter 467B, Hawaii Revised Statutes, requires every public benefit corporation domiciled in Hawaii and every charitable organization, with certain exemptions, to register before conducting any Solicitation or having any solicitation conducted on its behalf by others.

More than 700 charities are presently listed in the registry. Users may search for and view the registration statements and tax returns of registered charities by organization name, federal employer identification number, location, or charitable classification.

“The registration law helps donors, consumers, and charities by promoting safe philanthropy in Hawaii,” Attorney General Mark Bennett said. “The public availability of registration information, in an easily accessible form, helps bring greater transparency to charities, and helps donors make better informed decisions about their charitable  giving.”
