Tropical Paws offers up super slate of auction items

MEDIA RELEASE

Just a few tickets remain – and a host of excellent auction items – are up for grabs for the 13th Hawaii Island Humane Society’s Tropical Paws fundraiser.

The event is 6 p.m. Friday, May 1 at Four Seasons Hualalai Resort.

Adding to the list of gala sponsors that includes Better Brands and Eos Estate Winery, the Four Seasons Hualalai Resort and Kona Brewing Company are donations from a variety of businesses and individuals that mean event-goers will have options to bid on everything from luxury vacations to dog food for a year.

Among the items:

* A koa rocker.

* Breakfast at Tiffany’s for you and 19 of your friends

* A Joseph Phelps wine experience in Napa Valley

* A four night stay at the luxurious Four Seasons Resort in Langkawi, Malaysia. Langkawi is a tropical paradise of lush foliage and dramatic cliffs. Set on Tanjung Rhu, one of the island’s best beaches, the Four Seasons combines indigenous architecture with gracious service in a resort experience unmatched in Malaysia. With the winning bid, you could enjoy the white sands along the Andaman Sea at this Conde Nast Traveler Gold List 2009 resort.

* A year’s supply of dog food. Nutro, supplier of food to Hawaii Island Humane Society’s shelters, has generously donated a year’s supply of dog food which one lucky bidder will win.

* Pet portraits by artist Shelly Maudsley White whose vibrant, confident approach to the art of watercolor is inspired by living in Hawaii for more than 35 years. Maudsley White will be offering up to 12 original watercolor pet paintings, each 22 by 30 inches, for a set bid of $1,500 each. Maudsley White paintings of this size normally retail for $3,000. A professional photographer will photograph your pet. You get the photograph, an original watercolor painting and, all 12 originals will then be turned into note cards to be sold as a fundraiser for HIHS. You will also receive a set of 50 note cards with your pet, its name and yours on the back. All this for $1,500, exclusively at Tropical Paws. Next year at Tropical Paws you will see the note cards for sale!

* A donation by New York Times bestselling author John Saul. Saul will personally host a book club, with pupus and refreshments, limited to you and up to 10 of your friends. Each club member will receive an autographed copy of Saul’s newest book, House of Reckoning, for book club discussion. Saul, who lives part-time in the Pacific Northwest and on the Big Island, is also including a Kindle 2 which retails for $359. The device will be pre-loaded with more than thirty of Saul’s books. Amazon Kindle is a software and hardware platform for reading electronic books and the newly released Kindle 2 can hold up to 1,500 books digitally.

Tickets are $100 per person or $1,500 for a reserved table of ten. This year, each ticket purchase also includes an HIHS stimulus package — a $25 coupon which may be applied towards any auction purchase.

Tickets may be purchased online, by calling HIHS at 329-1175, or by stopping by either the Kona or Waimea shelter.

Proceeds from the ‘pawsitively pawsome’ gala event help benefit our island’s animals and the many programs and outreach of the Hawaii Island Humane Society.

Since its inception Tropical Paws has raised more than $300,000 to support vital programs offered by the Hawaii Island Humane Society including the Second Chance Fund and the Spay/Neuter Community Assistance Program. The Second Chance Fund provides medical care and treatment for abused animals while they recuperate and become ready for adoption. The Spay/Neuter Community Assistance Program is committed to ending pet overpopulation on the Big Island.
