Centenarian’s birthday celebrated in Hilo

Photographs by Rick Ogata/Special to Hawaii247.com

Today was an event well worth waiting for. Matsue Nishimura, who was born on April 9, 1909, celebrated her 100th birthday today with her friends and family at the Hilo Hospital extended care facility. The birthday girl was born in Kalaoa, Papaikou and attended Kalanianaole School. She has seven children, 19 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

Three of the great-granddaughters of Matsue Nishimura assisted with the task of blowing out the birthday cake candles, thankfully the number 100 was lit instead of 100 candles. Jacie Nishimura, Bethany and Maele Honma made quick work of  out the candles on the cake.
