Keauhou Recycling and HI-5 Redemption Center will be closed Sunday, April 12 through Friday, April 24

MEDIA RELEASE

The Department of Environmental Management and the ARC of Hilo will be temporarily closing the Keauhou Mixed Recycling and HI-5 Redemption Center on Sunday, April 12 through Friday, April 24, 2009 at the Keauhou Transfer Station for site upgrades.

The Keauhou Transfer Station rubbish drop-off services will be open for normal business hours from 6:30 A.M. to 6:30 P.M.

The closest alternative Recycling and HI-5 Redemption Center is at the Kealakehe Transfer Station.

A concrete pad made with recycled glass is being installed at the HI-5 redemption center and the mixed recycling area. This “glasscrete” pad will reduce mud and ponding in the recycling area and result in a cleaner site and improved access. Funding for this project is provided by a grant from the State Department of Health HI-5 Program.

Keauhou Mixed Recycling will re-open on Saturday April 25, 2009 at 6:30 A.M. The HI-5 Redemption Center will re-open on Saturday April 25, 2009 at 8:30 A.M.
