AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL BRING SOME UNSETTLE WEATHER TO THE 50TH STATE TODAY AND TONIGHT WITH THE BIG ISLAND EXPECTED TO GET MOST OF THE HEAVY WEATHER. LIGHT WINDS WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE MAIN HAWAIIAN ISLANDS THROUGH THE REST OF TODAY…WITH A RETURN TO TRADE WINDS EXPECTED LATE WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY.

THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR

* THE BIG ISLAND.

* FROM 8 AM HST THIS MORNING THROUGH THIS EVENING.

* AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE IS EXPECTED TO BRING THE THREAT OF HEAVY RAIN TO THE BIG ISLAND TODAY AND TONIGHT.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.

MAUNA KEA SUMMIT ROAD CONDITIONS

Road/Snow Information from MK Rangers and Support Group
Road status: Closed
Comments: Tuesday, March 17, 2009 – 06:49 a.m.

The Summit Access Road is closed this morning due to snow on the summit pavement. There was no snow overnight, but it has been snowing this morning. The forecast predicts a good chance for more snow today and tomorrow. It is likely the roads will remain closed for the next few days, and especially in the mornings.
