Road closures along Komohana Street in Hilo

MEDIA RELEASE

Road closures and detours along Komohana Street are expected to continue until April, while Isemoto Contracting Company Ltd builds retaining walls and makes drainage improvements for the County of Hawaii. Roadside improvements will not alter or change Komohana street.
Work is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, excluding holidays. Off-duty officers will direct traffic and message boards at strategic locations on Komohana Street and intersecting roads will alert traffic to detour.

March 23-24
Komohana Street will be closed to through traffic between Kawailani Street and Puainako Street. Motorists will have limited use of Komohana between Kawailani and Puainako streets.

Residents on Komomala will be allowed only left turns on to Komohana Street. Edena Street access to Komohana will be closed. Residents on Edena are asked to use Malawaina Street.

The $5 million project is a Statewide Transportation Improvement Program and federally funded. The Federal Highways Administration pays 80% of the improvement cost and the County of Hawaii, 20%. Roadwork began on in late October and is scheduled for completion in third quarter of 2009.
