Prevent a litter – fix your critter. For free!

MEDIA RELEASE

Spay Day USA was Feb. 24, and in true island-time recognition of the national event, the Hawaii Island Humane Society is offering 16 free spays or neuters at the Kona and at the Keaau shelters during March.

Those interested can sign up before March 23 at the three Hawaii Island Humane Society shelters in Kona, Keaau and Waimea.  If sign-ups exceed the limit of 32 total, a random drawing will be conducted. Winners may schedule surgery dates after March 24. Spay and neuter surgeries from Waimea winners will be in Kona.

Not having cats and dogs spayed results in the euthanasia of as many as 4 million cats and dogs annually in the United States and thousands here in the islands.

Contact the HIHS Kona shelter at 329-1175, Waimea shelter at 885-4558 or the Keaau shelter at 966-5458 for more information.

The mission of the Hawaii Island Humane Society is to promote respect for all animals, prevent cruelty to animals, eliminate pet overpopulation, and enhance the relationship between humans and animals.

HIHS holds a contract with the county to enforce certain animal-related laws and offers 24-hour service for injured animals and other animal emergencies, humane education classes, low-cost spay and neuter services, lost and found assistance, microchipping and more.
