Wish you were here? Saddle Road frost

An early morning drive across Saddle Road almost always offers up some neat vistas and views. As it was for Bobby Command who traveled early Monday, March 2 from Kona to Hilo.

“This is a fence along the base at Pohakuloa Training Area next to Bradshaw Army Air Field. I don’t know if it was freezing, but it was close to it at 7 a.m. The frost disappeared when the sun came up,” Command said. “I took a photo before I touched the railing and then after, to show it was not just the color of the railing. I wanted to take a few more photos, but it was too cold for shorts and slippers.”

The low temperature at Bradshaw Army Air Field was 35 for the day — 3 degrees above actual freezing and 1 degree below dew point. The record temperature for March 2 was 30 degrees back in 2005, which is really too cold for shorts and slippers.

Looks spooky, but it's only a handprint in the frost on a fence near Bradshaw AFB along Saddle Road early Monday, March 2. (Photo courtesy of Bobby Command)
