Mini-tornado ‘Dust Devil’ rips through Ka‘u High School

A late morning tornado ripped the roof off Ka`u High School & Pahala Elementary Saturday. Nobody was hurt but the roof was damaged and debris were sent flying over 100 yards away.

At about 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, a dust devil ripped the roof off Ka‘u High School & Pahala Elementary Saturday. No injuries were reported, but the roof was damaged and debris were sent flying over 100 yards away. The cost of the damage remained unknown Monday, March 2.

    how do you know it was a tornado?
    the school is pretty old! it could of jus been strong winds.

    I’ve shot video of large dust-devils before. Here’s video of one in Waikoloa in an area cleared by a brushfire. The dust-devil was pulling up ashes and debris into the sky. http://www.mediabaron.com/blog/2007/07/26/were-not-in-kansas-anymore/
