High surf advisory in effect for Big Island today

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for the Big Island through 6 p.m. Rough surf of 6-8 feet is expected for today.

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area producing large breaking waves, rip currents and localized beach erosion.
