Night road work planned for Kainaliu

MEDIA RELEASE

Night road work in Kainaliu is scheduled Feb. 11-27 and includes shoulder work and resurfacing portions of Mamalahoa Highway.  Motorists are advised of lane closures, delays and restricted parking between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. weekdays.

One lane will be closed to traffic during these hours and motorists should plan on 10 to 20-minute delays. No on-street parking will be allowed during the road work. Cones will be placed to alert motorists of the no-parking areas.

Feb. 11-13 and Feb. 16-17 — Contractor Goodfellow Bros Inc. will excavate along both road shoulders of Mamalahoa, starting on the north end of Kainaliu town between Aloha Theatre and at Kainaliu Gardens.

Feb. 18-20 — Excavation on both sides of Mamalahoa will move to the southern end of Kainaliu town between Sandy’s Drive Inn and Kadooka Nursery.

Feb. 23-27 and March 2-6 – Mamalahoa will be resurfaced starting from the north end of town ending just beyond Aloha Theatre and working towards the southern end of town to Kadooka Nursery.  Should rain delay the project, resurfacing could be extended to the week of March 9.

This is part of the $1.5 million improvements package to address the flow of traffic in north Kona and to improve parking and upgrade sidewalks to meet requirements for the American Disabilities Act. Construction is scheduled for completion in April.

For weekly changes to the work schedule and updated project information, call the County Hotline at 334-9559.
