MEDIA RELEASE

HONOLULU – The Hawai‘i Mental Health Transformation State Incentive Grant (MHT SIG) will hold public meetings statewide from January 29 to February 13, 2009 to share information about the progress made through the MHT SIG process and recognize awardees of the Uluakupu Awards (community mini-grants). The meetings are funded through a grant administered by the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The MHT SIG provides $10.95 million in federal funding over five years to assist in transforming the delivery of quality mental health services across the state of Hawai‘i.

“This series of townhall meetings will fulfill the promise made by the Department of Health and the Mental Health Transformation State Incentive Grant leadership to return to the communities to provide updates on efforts to improve mental health services,” said Rupert Goetz, M.D., director of the MHT SIG. “The two-hour meetings may include participation from the community, members from the task groups, Uluakupu awardees, representatives from the State Planning Council on Mental Health, and other key stakeholders.”

Meetings will be held on the islands of O‘ahu, Hawai‘i, Kaua‘i, Maui, and Moloka‘i.
