FEMA training slated for insurance agents, realtors

Basic FEMA flood insurance training for insurance agents, realtors and lenders is scheduled Thursday, Feb. 5, in Hilo and Friday, Feb. 6, in Kailua-Kona.

FEMA Flood Insurance Specialist Jana Critchfield will conduct the 3-hour training course, which will cover National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and legislation and policies, elements of insurance rating and the claims process, available information/resources, Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) and Elevation Certificates.

The Hilo training is 9 a.m.-noon Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Civil Defense Agency, 920 Ululani St. On-street parking only.

The Kona training is 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at the Kona Board of Realtors, 74-5620 Palani Road , in the Palani Court behind Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.

The training is free of charge. There is a filing fee for insurance agents who wish to receive continuing education credits for the training. Realtors and lenders are also encouraged to attend, although no continuing education credits are available.

Space is limited for both sessions and pre-registration is recommended. For the Hilo training, insurance agents are asked to call 935-8116 by Friday, Jan. 30 to pre-register. For the Kona training, call 345-6418 by Monday, Feb. 2 to pre-register.

The training is co-sponsored by FEMA Region IX, the Hawaii State Department of Land and Natural Resources–Engineering Division—NFIP, the County’s Floodplain Management program and the Hawaii Independent Insurance Agents Association.
