The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for West Hawaii. Surf along the western shore will be 7-10 feet today. A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the area producing large breaking waves and dangerous rip currents and localized beach erosion.
The summit access road to Mauna Kea is open though a high wind warning remains in effect until noon today. West winds of 40-65 mph with higher gusts will continue over the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa this morning and may decrease to 30-40 mps with higher gusts this afternoon. Very strong winds can create hazardous driving conditions and travel to the summit areas should be delayed until winds subside.
