The Summit Access Road has been closed at Hale Pohaku do to hurricane force winds. Wind speeds of more than 90 miles per hour have been recorded at one of the telescope facilities. In addition to hazardous driving conditions, even well secured items can be blown loose and become projectiles. High winds are forecast through the weekend, so frequent road closures are likely.

Other than the wind, the summit is very clear. There has been no new snow since Jan. 1.
