Road/Snow Information from MK Rangers and Support Group

Road status: Closed

Comments: Friday, January 16, 2009 – 12:10 p.m.

The Summit Access Road has been closed at Hale Pohaku do to hurricane force winds. Wind speeds of over 90 miles per hour have been recorded at one of the telescope facilities. This is very hazardous. Besides hazardous driving conditions, even well secured items can be blown loose and become projectiles. High winds are forecast through the weekend, so frequent road closures are likely.

Other than the wind, the summit is very clear. There has been no new snow since January 1.
