Two charged with Hilo jewelry store burglary

Hilo Detectives have arrested and charged two persons in connection with an early-morning burglary on December 28 at a jewelry store on Kamehameha Avenue in Hilo. Both parties were initially arrested on January 6 for unrelated bench warrants.

Charged were 46-year-old Franklin M. Grammer and 37-year-old Bonnie H. Castro for breaking into the jewelry store and removing a safe that contained necklaces, pendants, rings and other assorted jewelry.

Both were charged with second-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools, second-degree theft, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and prohibited acts related to drug paraphernalia. Grammer remains in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center without bail for parole violations and an additional $10,000 aggregate bail for the burglary and drug charges. Castro also remains in custody at the jail with an aggregate bail amount of $60,000.

Detectives have recovered some of the jewelry taken in this burglary and are looking into the possible involvement of additional suspects.
