Kokua Kailua stroll set for Jan. 18

MEDIA RELEASE

The first Kokua Kailua Hulihee Palace Sunday Concert Series & Village Stroll of 2009 is slated for Sunday, Jan. 18. Alii Drive will once again turn into a pedestrian mall from 12:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.

Enjoy a free Hawaiian music concert on Hulihee Palace’s South Lawn beginning at 4 p.m. The concert will honor King Lunalilo and remember Iolani Luahine.  For added enjoyment, remember to bring a beach mat or chair, which can be stowed at the chair check-in tent across the street from the palace at Emma’s Square.

Many merchants and restaurants offer special kamaaina pricing and dozens of the island’s artisans will be offering their work.

Kokua Kailua is sponsored by the Kailua Village Business Improvement District,  Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce, Destination Kona Coast, Kailua Village Merchants Association, Hulihee Palace and KWXX radio. The program is designed to rally support for merchants and restaurants and to remind residents to shop, dine and buy local.

The next Hulihee Palace Concert & Village Stroll date is Sunday, Feb. 15.

Each Kokua Kailua event needs volunteers to assist with set-up and tear down.  To help volunteer, call co-chairwomen Marie Aguilar at 334-0562 or Inde Coggin at 329-9694.
