DUI statistics for Dec. 9-15

During the week of Dec. 9-15, Big Island police arrested 20 motorists for drunken driving. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. Three were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,325 DUI arrests compared with 1,308 during the same period last year, an increase of 1.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,659 major accidents so far this year compared with 2,047 during the same period last year, a decrease of 19 percent.

So far this year, there have been 27 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 35 during the same period last year, a decrease of 23 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
