Laaloa Beach Park, Kahaluu Beach closed Friday due to high surf

Hawaii County Parks and Recreation and the Hawaii Fire Department Ocean Safety Division reports the closing of two beaches due to high surf conditions:

Laaloa Beach Park is closed completely.

Kahaluu Beach Park is closed completely.

PER THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HONOLULU HI @ 334 PM HST THU DEC 4 2008
A HIGH SURF WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR WEST FACING SHORES OF THE BIG ISLAND…
THE HIGH SURF WARNING IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM HST SATURDAY…

SURF HEIGHTS ALONG EXPOSED COASTS OF THE LEEWARD SIDE OF THE BIG ISLAND IS EXPECTED RISE TO 8 TO 12 FEET AND CONTINUE THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT. THIS WILL MAINLY AFFECT KONA AND KOHALA

A HIGH SURF WARNING INDICATES THAT DANGEROUS…BATTERING WAVE WILL POUND THE SHORELINE. THIS WILL RESULT IN VERY DANGEROUS SWIMMING CONDITIONS…AND DEADLY RIP CURRENTS. BOAT OWNERS AND OCEANFRONT RESIDENTS SHOULD TAKE ACTIONS TO SECURE THEIR PROPERTY.
