DLNR meeting on Pohoiki Boat Ramp project

MEDIA RELEASE

PAHOA – The Department of Land and Natural Resources invites the public to attend an information meeting regarding the upcoming construction work to replace the existing Pohoiki boat ramp and loading dock.

DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) staff will discuss the construction schedule, including ramp closure times; impacts to the areas around the ramp; best management practices to protect water quality; and other construction-related activities.

The meeting is 5-7 p.m. Monday, Dec 8 at Pahoa High and Intermediate School Cafeteria, 15-3038 Puna Road.

The meeting will be attended by Kaikor Construction personnel, DOBOR Hawaii district manager Nancy Murphy and DOBOR engineering branch chief Eric Yuasa.

“As part of the Lingle-Aiona Administration’s ongoing efforts to upgrade our small boat harbors statewide, we are planning to replace the existing Pohoiki boat ramp and loading dock due to their poor condition,” said Laura H. Thielen, DLNR chairwoman. “These improvements will ensure accessibility, safety and comfort for residents and visitors who use this boating facility.”

The Pohoiki boat ramp and loading dock replacement project, which is currently in construction phase, was designed by DLNR’s consultant firm Wilson Okamoto Corporation.

Anyone requiring special assistance (i.e. large print material, sign language interpreters, etc.) may contact Nancy Murphy at 329-4997.
