State historic preservation division moves to new Hilo office

HILO – The State Historic Preservation Division (SHPD) is now located at a new address at 40 Po’okela Street, Hilo 96720.

SHPD Administrator Pua Aiu said, “We are very excited that we now have space for a library and meeting rooms, and we also have curation space. We want to thank the County of Hawai’i for hosting us in their building as we searched for this new space.”

For general information on the state historic review process, “no effect” letters, and other historic preservation matters, please phone the office at (808) 933-7653. The office fax number is (808) 933-7655.

SHPD Hawai’i island staff include Theresa Donham, lead archaeologist, Morgan Davis, assistant archaeologist, and Analu Josephides, cultural historian.

Normal hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Visitors are asked to please call in advance to make an appointment, because staff conduct field inspections and may be out of the office periodically.
